Biography

Brian Faris grew up an active 4-H member in Sonora, Texas, raising and showing Rambouillet sheep and market lambs. He had a steer and swine project, but his love was for sheep. He judged wool, mohair and range, and served on the Texas 4-H Council. Upon graduation in 1993, Brian attended Texas A&M University and majored in Animal Science. While at A&M, he participated on the Wool Judging Team and worked at the Sheep & Goat Center. After his B.S. degree, he completed his Masters at Angelo State University and PhD at New Mexico State University while coaching their respective collegiate Wool Judging teams.

Dr. Faris served as the North Carolina State Extension 4-H Youth Livestock Specialist and the Kansas State Extension Sheep & Meat Goat Specialist before moving back to Texas in 2015. He worked in the livestock reproductive field until accepting an Ag Science Teaching position at Blanco High School for the 2018-19 school year. Then he started his current role as the Competitive Events Director at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo since 2019.

Brian has judged numerous county, state and national shows throughout the country and has judged in Canada. His passion is working with kids and to see them learn about agriculture through 4-H/FFA projects.

Brian and his wife, Reyna, live in Blanco, Texas. Their children have grown up showing sheep and goats. They currently raise a flock of Registered Dorper Sheep. They are actively involved in their church and community and enjoy living life to its fullest.
